What was your first concert?
Ray Charles. My brother is a professional musician, and he put me on a chair inside the kitchen where Ray was playing. I was probably 10 at the time. I got to see a lot of great jazz and blues as a kid.
Who was your biggest childhood crush?
David Lee Roth. I had a picture of him in my room. He was chained to a fence, and I was really too young to get all the sexual symbolism in the picture, but my mother sure did. I had to take the poster down.

What's your best childhood toy-related scar?
I nearly cut my finger off playing with a knife. I learned that day that knives are not toys.
What's the best part of getting older?
Having someone I deeply love to get older with. John, my husband, and I are the best of friends, and it's just such an incredible gift to go through life with someone you're always happy to see.
